SABC board suspends CEO pending disciplinary hearing

The SABC said it would have to wait for the outcome of a disciplinary hearing before they can appoint a new CEO.

The national broadcasters board suspended Solly Mokoetle on Friday, pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing against him.

In the meantime, the companys CFO, Robin Nicholson, stepped in.

Mokoetle had been at loggerheads with the board about the appointment of Phil Molefe as the head of news, as well as allegations that he is guilty of financial mismanagement.

The decision was made following a meeting between the SABCs board and Mokoetle on Friday.

Formal charges were still being prepared and would be issued to him in due course.

“We do not know because it depends on how long the disciplinary process will take because they have indicated that they are asking an independent person to deal with the disciplinary process,” said SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago.
